Benny Crawford & Son pianos are delighted to be providing an upright piano to ABRSM @ St Mary Magdalene in March.

We have been supplying the exam piano for a number of years now and are proud to be doing so. We might not be able to help with ‘nerves’ on exam day but the pupils can be assured the the piano will be in tip top working order and fine tuned.

Kawai K70 in black. This is a very fine piano indeed! Music desk in ‘grand’ style, plenty of room for books & sheets, elegant case styling. A tonal quality and performance that rivals many grand pianos and the touch is tremendously fast and effortless for the player. The repetition and responsiveness are superb.

HOLYWOOD MUSIC FESTIVAL SYLLABUS LAUNCH and SIGNING CHOIR WORKSHOP

Saturday 4^th of June was an exciting day in the Holywood Music Festival calendar of events!

The launch of this year’s syllabus took place alongside the Festival’s first ever Signing Choir workshop in the Parish Centre on Church Road in Holywood.

The Festival President, Michael Alexander, unveiled some innovative additions to this year’s Festival which will take place 11-19 November in the Queen’s Hall, Holywood.

As well as introducing a new performance class, the Katy Major Trophy and cash prize, Holywood Music Festival will be the first in the UK to include a class for Signing Choirs!

The Workshop on Saturday was run with the generous support of North Down Borough Council and was enjoyed thoroughly by all participants.

Lady Sylvia Hermon, Councillor James McKerrow, North Down Mayor and Councillor Larry Thompson thoroughly enjoyed observing the workshop being given by Dr Paul Whittaker who flew in from Manchester for the day. Dr Whittaker is the Founder of “Music and the Deaf”, a talented sign performer, a graduate of Wadham College, Oxford and Post Graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music . He is frequently invited to give signing workshops, talks and keynote speeches across the UK and Europe. He is keen to emphasise that his workshops are for both deaf and hearing equally.

Dr Whittaker will return in November to adjudicate the Festival’s new Signing Choir Class. The Festival wants to encourage as many entries for this year’s competition as possible, not only for the new classes, but for all the many choral, instrumental, vocal, traditional and music theatre sections.

HOLYWOOD MUSIC FESTIVAL LAUNCH 2011

Holywood Music Festival would like to invite you to the launch of our 2011 season:

We are delighted that this year sees the introduction of a Signed Choir class to the Festival. Not only a first for our Festival, it is the first time Signed Choirs have been included at any Festival across the UK.

John Grant is an American singer-songwriter finally gaining the recognition he deserves as a solo artist, having previously been lead vocalist for The Czars.

Grant recorded his debut solo album, Queen of Denmark, in collaboration with the American folk rock band Midlake. This recent album has been described as “a deeply personal album” about his past struggles with alcohol addiction and coming to terms with being gay. Queen of Denmark was chosen as the Best Album of 2010 by the magazine Mojo. Grant, who is set to do a full UK tour with his handpicked band, has been described as “breathtaking” and “flawless” live.

With perhaps the most satisfying and critically acclaimed album of 2010, you could say we’re a little bit excited about this show.
